I noticed last night that i have a HUGE lump on my left shoulder at the base of my neck right above my collar bone. It's soft and not at all painful or tender. It had to have just popped up last night because i think i would have noticed it well before now. The only thing out of the ordinary i did was a few push-ups yesterday morning. Could that have cause it?? I dont excersise much at all so a few push-ups WAS a task for me. Any ideas on what this thing is would be greatly appriciated. I will make a DR appointment on Tuesday if its still there i guess. :sad3:

Damn people, i could be dying here and not one respose!!!! :finger: j/k No need to reply however, i think i'm gonna live afterall. When i woke up today its about half the size it was, so it must be some kinda inflammed muscle or something.

Formula if it is still there on Tuesday I would definitey have it checked out. Most likely you hurt yourself doing the push-ups, but it doesn't hurt to be sure that is all it is.

I'd guess that it's a harmless calcium deposit.....but it's definitely worth having checked out.

That was funny.

Lots of things it could be - does it pulsate? But it isprobably nothing to worry about Actually, it could be a fat filled cyst called a lipoma but they are relatively uncommon around the neck region.

Under the skin and surrounding the muscles, in a mummy-like wrapped fashion, only organized wrapping, there is a saran wrap like material called fascia. Sometimes the fascia can develop weak spots and such and pressure from underlying muscles when contracted can actually push through and tear that fascia. Happens in some types of hernias like an umbilical hernias. If you are absolutely sure 'the lump' was never there before the pushups - probably no biggy as far as a life or death issue. Lots of little muscles in the lower neck region as well that could bulge through the saran wrapping or simply stay in a state of spasm for a while under the fascia and cause on outward bulging.

Still it Could Be a Cyst.

OMG, i had a horrible, horrible night. I thought i was huge trouble. The lump is still there and really hasnt gotten any smaller like i originaly thought. I hadnt thought much about it until last night. Then like a big dummy i started searching the web for answers and didnt like what i found!!!! I was always under the impression that the VAST majority of lumps were benign and harmless. BUT, thats not at all true with neck lumps. 80% of neck masses in adults are malignant!!!! I nearly fell right out of my chair, i couldnt believe what i was reading. As a matter of fact docs even use the term "the rule of 80" to describe neck lumps. And state all neck masses in adults should be treated as neoplasms (cancer i assume) until proven otherwise. It was a long horrible night of thinking i was going to die!! I kept having people look at my lump, and always got the same resonse, yep, something dont look right there. So i got off work this morning, and waited until the DR opened and called for an appointment. They couldnt get me in to Friday!! But apparently the girl who took the appointment told my doc what was up, and i got a phone call about an hour later and he wanted me to come in right away!! I knew i was doomed then, i was SOOOO scared. But it all ended great!!! Doc looked at the lump and said its not a "mass" so to speak. But a collection of harmless fat tissue and muscle. He says its not at all consistant with a swollen lymph node or a tumor!!! I was soooo relieved. I feel like i got a new lease on life. I guess you just never know what can happen in life. :toast:
